Name: Emily Elsworth
Pronouns: she/her
Neurodivergence: Autism. Dyspraxia.
Professional Role: Founder
Bio: I am a late diagnosed autistic advocate, who is determined to use my lived experience to help change the narrative of what it means to be autistic.
I had always known that I was different, but never understood why until I received my autism diagnosis when I was 27. This started me on my journey of understanding who I really was, rather than the person who had always masked. This has been a rollercoaster of a journey which has also included self-identifying as dyspraxic and a further diagnosis of Fibromyalgia and Hyper-Mobility.
Every discovery just makes me more determined to change the narrative. Sharing my lived experience is something that I am extremely passionate about. Everything I knew about autism, prior to my own diagnosis, had been driven by a narrative not led by autistic people which led to many misconceptions.
Before pursuing this journey, I have previously studied Primary Education at University, worked within museum education departments and supported primary aged children with SEND (Special Educational Needs and Disabilities).
I hope by sharing my experience I can show that access doesn't mean knocking down buildings and starting from scratch but really small, achievable changes.
